ASU Student Electrocuted PDF Print

Raleigh officials have identified one of the two electrocuted in a weekend incident there as an Appalachian State student, who remains hospitalized after suffering severe electrical burns.

Brian Griffin Rey, 22, of Raleigh, was listed in critical condition yesterday morning at UNC Hospitals, that after reportedly breaking into a Progress Energy substation in Raleigh Sunday night.  Rey is listed as a senior at ASU. Also injured was 21-year-old Amber Leigh Mills of Raleigh, who was released after treatment.  Police say the two climbed an 8-foot fence surrounding the substation and came into contact with 23,000 volts of electricity according to police. The incident knocked out power to 12,000 Progress Energy customers.
