Deputies in Watauga County are still investigating the Thursday death of an infant.

Authorities and rescue personnel responded to a 911 call about an infant not breathing at a residence on Morning Dove Lane in Boone. The infant had allegedly been in a vehicle. The baby was transported to Watauga Medical Center and pronounced deceased. An autopsy indicated the cause of death was hyperthermia.

At the request of the District Attorney’s Office, little information is being released. Hyperthermia, has, however, been reported in children left alone in vehicles.

The Watauga County Sheriff's Office and the Watauga County District Attorney's Office are both actively investigating the case. According to Sheriff Len Hagaman, no charges have been filed.
