Too much work, not enough weekend PDF Print

Let's toss out the five-day workweek and replace it with a five-day weekend. That's the campaign message of a group calling itself Friends of the Five Day Weekend.   According to a 2007 survey, Americans receive 14 days vacation, compared to 36 days in France, 30 in Spain, and 26 days in Germany. According to The Friends, Congress was in session 104 days last year, which averages to two days a week. The Friends won't rest until Congress hears them out. Their campaign brought them to Asheville and Charlotte this week. The campaign in Asheville started out as a promotional gimmick by the Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau, but the group itself is actively trying to get a message to Congress. By using a "Work Less Express" bus, live music, giveaways, and picket signs reading "Work Less Live More," the group attracted a lot of attention in Western North Carolina. For more information about the campaign, check out www.fivedayweekend.org.
