Two women were injured and rushed to Watauga Medical Center after a rear-end collision this morning on US 421 at the edge of Vilas. The rear-end collision occurred near the Quality Plus station just before 8am when 27-year old Christy Miller of Zionville failed to slow in time to avoid slamming her Ford Explorer into the rear of a stopped blue Toyota pickup driven by Ann Kay of Apple Way, Blowing Rock. Watauga Medics transported both women, but rushed Christy Miller to Watauga Medical Center to check her unborn baby as she is reportedly seven months pregnant, according to Trooper Goldsmith of the State Patrol, but he said it appeared that the baby was fine, and neither women were seriously hurt. He cited Christy Miller for Failure to Reduce Speed in the crash that did considerable damage to both vehicles.
