Work to Restore NC 194 Could Begin Today PDF Print

Work could begin today to reconstruct the section of NC 194 that slid down the mountainside July 15th. NC DOT Spokesman Jerry Higgins said that a meeting took place yesterday that finalized plans for just how the project will progress, saying that all local contractors are being used to restore the mountainside and the road, and that the dangers there have finally abated to the point that work can begin. Higgins put a completion date around the first of November. He also had a message for truckers, to stay off Blevins Creek Road and use the longer detour.  But Higgins said that it should be OK for school busses to use the route, good news with school starting in less than three weeks.
