A family vacation in Boone ended tragically with an 11-year old Rock Hill South Carolina boy dead, his mother in critical condition as the two were found in a room at the Boone Best Western Hotel on East King Street—the same room where an elderly couple died in April.
The boy has been identified as Jeffrey Lee Williams. His mother, Jeannie Williams, remains in the hospital as of Sunday evening.
Boone Police say their investigation is still underway, trying to determine what killed the young boy and injured his mother, who was rushed to Watauga Medical Center just after noon yesterday. Police and Fire were called at about 12:30 to a report of two people in distress in a medical emergency, and there found the boy dead, his mother rushed from the scene, and emergency units remained on the scene well into the night as guests found themselves unable to return to some areas of the hotel.
Boone Police late last night said they have been unable to definitively connect the death from yesterday to two who died in the same room on April 16th. In that, it appeared the man had a health issue and that his wife died trying to revive him, but that conclusion may be reexamined in light of the most recent incident. Authorities have also said they have determined there is no danger to the general public.
