Council of State will not reconsider execution process PDF Print
Tuesday, 02 October 2007 19:00
The Council of State met yesterday and decided not to revisit North Carolina’s method of executing death row inmates.
In doing so, they rejected a judge’s findings earlier this year that they made mistakes when approving the “execution protocol” earlier this year. The Council decided Administrative Law Judge Fred Morrison did not have jurisdiction to decide the issue. Morrison ruled in August that the panel failed to hear arguments from those representing the condemned inmates before approving the new execution method. The Council of State is made up of the governor, lieutenant governor and eight other statewide elected officials.
