When approached by potential North Wilkesboro Speedway purchaser Worth Mitchell, representatives from Save the Speedway were ecstatic according to public information officer Steven Wilson.
It's an important monument for any racecar fan, he says- and it needs to be maintained.
Wilson hopes Mitchell will create a multipurpose attraction that will preserve the history of the track.
Save the Speedway was formed in 2005. The group successfully petitioned the state Department of Transportation for a historical highway marker that should be placed later this year at the corner of Speedway Road and Route 115.
