Sunday, dozens of Avery residents hit the streets of Newland for the Avery County Crop Walk. The event was a complete success according to volunteer Mildred Guthrie.
Avery citizens had fun walking for hunger, she said.
Volunteers from church groups as well as community groups and individual families came together for a good cause. While totals aren’t yet in, Guthrie says the event was a successful moneymaker for hunger organizations, including Reaching Avery Ministry, or RAM. RAM’s Rack food pantry serves an average of 80 families per month.
The walk started at the Avery County High School track and followed a three-mile route through Newland.
