Lower Division Schools polled- thanks to the Mountaineers PDF Print
Thursday, 06 September 2007 20:04

The Associated Press announced yesterday that lower-division schools like Appalachian State University will now be eligible for its 71-year-old poll.

This decision comes days after ASU’s 34-32 victory over formerly 5th ranked Michigan. While several AP voters wanted to put ASU on their ballots after Saturday, the poll guidelines limited eligibility to teams competing in the former NCAA Division 1-A, now called the Football Bowl Subdivision. Provided ASU beats Lenoir Rhyne, the university may crack the top 25, experts say.

Almost a week later- the Mountaineers continue to dominate sports headlines. Mountaineer Coach Jerry Moore says his players deserve every interview.

"These kids have earned the right to get the national recognition and attention they've gotten and it's like a lot of things in sports, you really can't stop to enjoy it because you've got another ball game coming right up," Moore said.

His team’s focus right now is not on Michigan- it’s on Saturday’s game against Lenoir Rhyne. A game that, as you’ve undoubtedly heard, is completely sold out.
