Get your grill on- safely PDF Print
Sunday, 02 September 2007 20:00

Labor Day weekend may be winding down, but there’s still time for burgers.

Paul Buchanan from the Watauga County Fire Marshal’s Office has some tips for a safe Labor Day barbeque.

Start with a complete clean grill- and just to be safe, grill away from structures.

With the burning ban, it’s particularly important, he says, not to endanger the surrounding area.  A woodsfire would be detrimental to your holiday plans.

Only use appropriate flammable liquids, and be careful what kind of lighter you use.

Try a long-tipped lighter to avoid burning yourself.

Clean up when you’re finished- and if using gas, disconnect the tank in case of a leak.

And- NEVER leave a grill unattended.
