Deadly day in Caldwell: 2 people dead in 2 crashes PDF Print
Thursday, 23 August 2007 05:10

Caldwell County is reeling from the loss of two Granite Falls residents, including a teenager, in separate accidents yesterday.

The first crash occurred around 10:45 a.m. on Connelly Springs road when a county-owned jeep attempted to turn left into Cajah’s Mountain Road, striking a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner in the process. The jeep, driven by 59-year-old Annette Beam Dudley of Lenoir, struck the back left corner panel of the Toyota, causing it to rotate counterclockwise, and then flip. Troopers say the Toyota driver, 46-year-old Robin Gray Davis of Granite Falls, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from her vehicle. She died at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. North Catawba Fire Department, Highway Patrol, EMS and First Responders attended the scene, troopers say.

The second accident left a 16-year-old Granite Falls woman dead. At approximately 12:40, a vehicle traveling east on Grace Chapel Road went off the roadway to the right after what troopers called, “a very slight curve.” The vehicle then struck two trees. All three occupants were pinned in the vehicle. The driver, 18-year-old Kenneth Tramble of Granite Falls, and a 13-year-old juvenile passenger, also of Granite Falls, are in stable condition at Frye Medical Center. The front right passenger, 16-year-old Brittany Chester, died of her injuries at Johnson City Medical Center. Tramble has been charged with careless and reckless driving. The District Attorney could issue additional charges. Grace Chapel Fire Department, Lovelady Rescue and EMS responded to the scene.

With yesterday’s incidents, the number of deadly crashes in Caldwell this year has risen to ten, resulting in the loss of 12 people.
