Avery County Sheriff ‘extremely pleased’ with deputies PDF Print

On a related note, Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye has released a report summarizing the last six months in Avery County. 

Frye says he is “extremely pleased” with deputies and jailers.” Frye said he is “continually” looking for ways to improve the service of his office. Calls dispatched have increased from the same time period last year by 18 percent. The Office has received 4,291 calls. 139 drug charges/violations have been issued- that’s a 93 percent difference from this time last year. Avery County’s new K-9s have assisted officers on 35 calls. Calls dispatched from 911- Communications: 4,291, an 18 percent from last year.

Arrestees Processed through Jail: 834, a 15 percent increase from last year.

Assisting Motorists: 143.

Mental Commitments: 32, a 33 percent increase from last year.

Civil Papers Served: 370, a 112 percent increase from last year.

Assist EMS/Rescue: 97, a 304 percent increase from last year.

Assist Fire Departments: 74, a 722 percent increase from last year.

Incident Reports Taken: 329 percent, a 63 percent increase from last year.

Shots fired: 20, a 66 percent increase from last year.

Warrants served: 165.

Business Checks: 9,366, a 143 percent increase from last year.

Funeral Escorts: 25, a 177 percent increase from last year.

Assist Elderly: 11, a 450 percent increase from last year.

 

Avery County Sheriff’s Office has also made over 1,500 phone calls to the people that have signed up on the eldercare list, the report says. The Office has also conducted or participated in 19 traffic checking stations in areas where reports of drug activity or breaking and enterings exist.
