Earthquake rocks Western N.C. PDF Print
Sunday, 05 August 2007 20:00
An earthquake centered just southeast of Asheville shook residents awake early Saturday morning.
The quake’s magnitude, according to the National Weather Service, was 2.8. Meteorologists believe the quake started on a fault 5.8 miles deep and six miles northeast of Lake Lure in Rutherford County, just west of Chimney Rock. While earthquakes are not unheard of in the mountains of North and South Carolina, they are infrequent, meteorologists say.
