By a vote of 47-1, the Senate gave its final approval
to a measure that will require the state’s utilities to provide 12.5 percent of
their retail electricity from renewable fuel and efficiency measures by 2017.
The bill will make North Carolina the first state in the Southeast to set a renewable-efficiency standard. Its next stop is Governor Mike Easley’s desk.
