Police suspect tractor is long gone PDF Print

The Avery Agriculture and Horticulture Fair may be out of luck in its search for the tractor allegedly stolen last week in Newland. .

Police suspect the tractor is no longer in Newland town limits. Sources within the police department say information on the tractor has been turned over to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The John Deere tractor was going to be raffled off as a fundraiser for this year’s Fair. While rumors suggest another tractor may be available- the theft resulted in a fair amount of public disgust. As Police Chief Jason Brown said last week, stealing the A & H Fair tractor is like stealing from Avery County.

Police hope continued publicity will trigger someone’s memory of what happened to the tractor. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Newland Police Department at (828) 733-2024.
