The body of a man missing for some 22 hours was recovered from the waters of Elk Creek Falls Sunday afternoon.   So far, Avery officials have not release the man’s name, witnesses saying that he was vacationing in the area and was about 40 years of age, and that next of kin notification was underway.  It was not clear from the scene whether the man intended to jump the 65 feet from the top to the water below or whether he fell looking into the pool, but at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon, he disappeared into the lower part of the stream and did not resurface, prompting the emergency call.  After an extensive search of the waterway and immediate pool below the falls, the man’s body was recovered at about 3pm Sunday.  The initial day of searching ended Saturday evening with a storm which raised the water levels to dangerous levels.
