Lenny Cottom’s proposed expansion of Hawksnest Ski Resort will be
discussed at tonight’s Board of Adjustment meeting.
Cottom plans on expanding
his beginner slope and, to do that, he needs to relocate the snow tube slope to
where Hole 4 was on the former golf course. In order to carry through with the
expansion, Town Council told Cottom he needed a conditional-use permit. Cottom
disagreed with this judgment- saying the property is zoned recreationally and
he has been granted a conditional-use permit for snow tubing on another part of
his property. Last month, when the town’s leasing of the former course to
reopen golf in Seven Devils was still on the table, Cottom had hoped his
cooperation would make the expansion process easier. He met the Council’s
reluctance to waive the Board of Adjustment hearings with disappointment. Last week, the Board held a preliminary
conference- and tonight at 5:30, a decision on the expansion could be made.
