|Avery, Ashe Residents Charged With Drug Counts in Watauga|

The Watauga Sheriff’s Department is reporting arrests of three area residents on drug counts following routine traffic stops.
Two Ashe County residents were charged after a May 8th stop for a safety violation, and deputies determined one of the vehicle occupants appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. The Watauga Sheriff's Department release says a Boone K-9 unit was called to the scene, and the dog reportedly alerted to the scent of drugs leading to a vehicle search. That search lead to charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and of drug paraphernalia for Nicole Renee Shiflett, 33, and 48-year old Thomas Edgar Rash Jr., both of the Creston area. Some quantity of what was described as high quality methamphetamine was found in the search. Bond for each was set at $4000.
An Avery man was arrested by the Watauga Sheriff’s Department after a traffic stop assisted by Blowing Rock that reportedly lead to the discovery of methamphetamine. April 29th, Tommy Len Ward of Elk Park was arrested for driving without a license and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. The 49-year old was charged with possession of the drug and driving with no operator’s license and was set bond of $5000.
