Watauga County Firefighters Association Honors Fallen Firefighters PDF Print

fallen.jpg6:37 a.m. - The Watauga County Firefighters Association Honor Guard participated in the 5th Annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Raleigh over the weekend.


Captain Chad Cole of the Watauga County Firefighters Association explained that every year, the firefighters who have died in the line of duty the previous year are inducted into the memorial site.

Seven firefighters were honored on Saturday at the memorial service.  Cole said four were killed in 2009 and three others before 1981.

Commander Alan Oberst, Captain Michael Miller, Guard Pete Wilson, and Captain Cole represented Watauga Honor Guard at the ceremony.

As of December 31, 2009, there have been 223 fallen firefighters inducted into the memorial.
