8:12 a.m. - A 16-year-old girl from Meatcamp is working to encourage children with cancer.

Hollie Moretz has made it her Gold Award project for Girl Scouts to make capes for children who are in the Camp Care juvenile cancer center.

A member of Moretz’ family told High Country Radio she got the idea from the CBS Early Show.

Moretz said the capes might make the children feel like a super hero and make them less afraid of their health situations.

Moretz is looking to make 250 capes and she’ll have to raise around $3,000 to buy the fabric for the project.  In order to raise the money, Moretz is hosting a singing at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church at 2:00 Sunday evening.

The Dollar Boys and Rick Davis & Group will be performing and donations will be accepted.

For more information or to find out how to help with Moretz’ cape project, e-mail her troop leader, Joanne Jenkins at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
