Press Release

Boone Planning Commissioner Stephen Phillips filed for Boone Town Council on July 16, 2007. His top priorities are relieving traffic congestion and completing the Greenway Trail to ASU—needs too long neglected. Stephen also hopes to promote functional government—one that facilitates rather than just regulates. He hopes to make recycling so convenient and fun that you will not even consider throwing #2 plastic away. He also wants to transform Boone into a model of sustainable development. He hopes to work with ASU’s technology department to create new neighborhoods. Neighborhoods based on state-of-the-art energy efficiency—this includes water conservation and solar power. So even if your mortgage payment is high, at least you will be saving on your energy bill. For fun, Stephen hopes to have an “Annual Gripe Day,” where you can express your views of town politics in a non-threatening, humorous way. He also would like to see a city festival where local businesses and crafts people, as well as ASU organizations, can introduce themselves to the community (similar to the Spring Festival at Varsity Gym during the 1970’s). Stephen believes that with community involvement, we can start focusing on the Boone we want! For more information, check out
