The identity of a man killed in a head-on collision last night has been released.

The man, 65-year-old David George Johnson of Spruce Pine, was driving a northbound 2006 Ford when his vehicle went left of center and collided head-on with a southbound 2003 Toyota. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, 43-year-old Allison McCall of St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as five passengers, were injured in the crash, but their conditions have not been released. According to Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on N.C. Hwy 105 last night, just over seven miles from Boone at approximately 10:10. Highway patrol does not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.  Johnson, originally from Crossnore, was a local preacher, described by friends as “a very good person.” His family still lives in Crossnore. He will be missed, friends say.
