Last night’s snowfall has caused icy patches of roadway on main roads across the High Country.

Secondary roads, parking lots, and other low-traffic areas are also snow covered this morning.

Blowing snow and high winds may also cause visibility issues for drivers.

A representative with the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office said as of around 6:30 a.m. only one wreck had been called in this morning and no injuries were reported.  A representative of the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office and an official with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office said no wrecks have been reported in Ashe or Avery.

The snow began falling consistently in Boone around 12:30 a.m.

The weather has also caused several closings, cancellations, and delays.  Click GBR’s Closings and Cancellations link at the top of the page for the latest.
