Former House speaker Jim Black was sentenced yesterday to 63 months in a federal prison.

Additionally, U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle fined Black $50,000 and ordered him to serve three years of probation after he completes his prison term. Black is believed to have taken $25,000 in cash from chiropractors while promoting their agenda in Raleigh. Black was first elected to state House in 1980 and has served four terms as speaker.
