dscn06851.jpgA 43-year-old Boone man was arrested on three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, taking indecent liberties with a child, and a habitual felon charge.

According to Detective Bobby Creed with the Boone Police Department, John Leon Whittington’s false pretense charges stem from him allegedly tricking clerks at Tuckers Restaurant in the Boone Mall and the Mast General Store on King Street.  He is accused of asking the clerks for change for a large bill into smaller bills, then distracting the clerk causing them to give him the smaller bills without him giving them the large bill.  The third count of false pretense stems from Whittington allegedly changing the barcodes on items in Lowe’s Home Improvement so that he paid a much lower price than the original price on the items.

Whittington’s indecent liberties with a child charge stems from a month-and-a-half-long investigation.  Detective Creed said authorities collected enough evidence to move forward with the indecent liberties charge.

Creed said Whittington’s habitual felon charge came as a result of his past criminal history.

In addition to his other five charges, Whittington was also served with two probation violations.

Whittington was given a $110,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 19.
