The latest ice storm didn’t quite have the power outage impact that the Christmas Day ice storm had on the High Country.

According to Blue Ridge Electric’s outage map, at the peak of the outages last night, around 2,000 customers were without power.  Most were in Alleghany County.

BREMCO’s public relations director Renee Whitener said, “Line technicians with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation have worked throughout the night restoring sporadic power outages in Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga counties caused by ice accumulation on power lines and trees.

“The majority of outages have been in Alleghany County, with one of the larger concentrations occurring in the Roaring Gap community for about an hour and a half when a circuit outage affecting a substation left 1,500 members without power from 11:17 p.m. until 1:13 a.m.”

As of 8:30 Friday morning, 115 BREMCO customers are without power.  If you’re a BEMCO customer and electricity goes out, call their outage number at 1-800-448-2383.
