Slick roads and unequipped motorist dominated the High Country travel scene Friday, as numerous wrecks lead to the closing of Highway 421 near the Watauga/Wilkes line, Highway 105 near the entrance to Seven Devils, and N.C. 16 for varying lengths of time.

Motorist calling into our WMMY 106.1FM studio on Friday afternoon reported being stuck in traffic for over three hours on Highway 221 in Ashe County between Jefferson and the Watauga County line.

Boone Police Department received about 90 stranded motorist calls between 6pm Friday- 4am Saturday morning. NC Highway Patrol and the Watauga County Sheriff's office also experience a higher than normal volume of calls for any recent winter storm.
