ice_121.jpgWeather kept officials at Grandfather Mountain from opening the top half of the mountain until around 1:30 this afternoon.  Although the road is open all the way to the top, the swinging bridge remains closed as several inches of ice have covered the famous bridge.

Grandfather’s public relations director, Landis Wofford, contacted High Country Radio to and said the top half of the mountain is also enveloped by thick fog.

Becuase the bridge is closed, residents can buy tickets for half price to visit Grandfather today.

If Mother Nature cooperates, Grandfather should be open every day during their December Dollar Days campaign for High Country Residents, except for Christmas Day.  Residents can call the entrance gate at (828) 733-4337 to find out the current weather conditions atop the mountain.
