pdr_2394.jpgOfficials from Appalachian State, Watauga County, New River Light and Power, and several others were on hand at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center Thursday afternoon for ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new wind turbine on ASU’s campus.

Greg Lovins of ASU, Watauga County Commissioner John Cooper, Ged Moody of the Appalachian Renewable Energy Imitative were just a few of the guest speakers at the event.

Moody was one of the last speakers to take the podium.  He talked about how the community came behind the building project to erect the wind turbine.  Moody even brought out how 93 percent of the ASU student body voted to pay $10 per year to go toward renewable energy effort.  Moody said, “You can’t find 93 percent of students who like pizza or beer.  Look what you did, students.  It’s going to be here for 30 years and you’re going to be able to come back and say, ‘I bought that.  Look what I did.’”

The wind turbine stands 121 feet tall and is located behind the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center on ASU’s campus.
