Newton--Two women and an 11-year old were killed in a wreck just before noon yesterday as the small car they were travelling in ran a flashing red signal at NC 16 and NC 10 and was struck by a tractor trailer.

Two boys, passengers in the car, were reported as in critical condition at an area hospital.  The deceased were identified as 56-year old Joyce White, the driver of the Suzuki Aero, 66-year old Ruby Leatherman and 11-year old Cody Story.  Isaiah Trivette, 10, and 12-year old Tyler Trivette were transported from the scene to Catawba Memorial, listed late yesterday in critical condition.  Traffic signals at the intersection were on flash after a power failure in yesterdays rain and wind, and may have caused confusion for the driver of the small car, according to police.  The car was struck by a tractor trailer rig hauling oil barrels, the impact demolishing the small car.
