New River Light and Power officials contacted Appalachian State to inform them that someone posing as a representative from the power company had contacted a local business.

According to ASU’s News Director Jane Nicholson, an unidentified person contact a local business telling the business they were behind in making their power bill payment and in order to keep electric service, they would need to provide a credit card number.

New River officials advised they would never ask for a customer’s credit card number and anyone receiving a similar call should hang up and report the call to New River Light and Power.
