The Hickory Police Department made a second arrest in the deadly hit-and-run incident that took the life of an Appalachian State student over the weekend.

Our Foothills Bureau reports 20-year-old Joey Lee Durham was arrested and charged with one count of felony accessory after the fact.  Authorities believe Durham was riding in the front seat of the vehicle that was driven by 18-year-old Daniel Thomas Whisnant, witnessed the incident, and did not contact authorities.

Whisnant is alleged to have struck 22-year-old Charlaine Taylor Sybrant and 24-year-old Joshua Keith Gajus while they were walking beside Highway 321 after their vehicle broke down.  Sybrant died at the scene and Gajus suffered a leg injury.

Whisnant was pulled over about an hour after the incident on suspicions that he was driving while impaired.  He will appear in court on November 25.

Sybrant was a graduate student at ASU.
