Firefighters still attacking lightning fires near Gorge PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge

162 people are currently in the gorge- battling fires that started from lightning strikes on June 8.
That includes 4 hand crews, 2 helicopters, 4 engines, 1 dozer and 2 water tenders. Air support from the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources is on standby- but the fires are still 95 percent contained. Firefighters are still watching the contained Dobson Knob fire. The large amount of unburned fuel within the fire perimeter may still pose a threat. Crews are continuing to patrol and evaluate the situation to determine if additional action is necessary.
