Senator Kay Hagan released a statement honoring two soldiers who were stationed in North Carolina and were killed in Afghanistan.

Private First Class Alan H. Newton, Jr., of Asheboro, and Captain Benjamin A. Sklaver, of Medford, Massachusetts, were both assigned to the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion in Greensboro.  The two were killed Friday by a suicide bomber in Murcheh, Afghanistan.

Hagan said, “I want to express my deepest condolences to the families of PFC Alan Newton and Capt. Benjamin Sklaver.  It is always heartbreaking to hear that North Carolina's brave soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting for our country.  My thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends during this extremely difficult time.”
