A broadcast and emerging media specialist staff-member at Appalachian State died over the weekend.

According to the autopsy results, 39-year-old Thomas Dedge passed away after suffering a massive heart attack on Sunday.

Lieutenant Byron Clawson of the Banner Elk Police Department said authorities began investigating the death as a homicide because Dedge was involved in an altercation with Chris Cameret on Saturday.

Clawson said investigators conducted several interviews, which is standard procedure for a homicide investigation, but the autopsy results showed that Dedge died of natural causes.
