Milk rights argued in Raleigh PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge

Raw milk advocates pleaded their case before a House committee yesterday.
The committee is considering a bill that would allow people to buy “shares” in cows so that they can avoid the pasteurized, homogenized beverage found in grocery stores. Advocates of unprocessed milk believe it is safe if purchased from small, well-run farms. Advocates feel it is higher in nutrients than processed milk. Representatives from the Agriculture Department, however, say there is a great chance of bacterial contamination from raw milk. The House Agriculture Committee is expected to vote on the measure next week.
