Ashe County officials are working to take more responsibility at the Ashe County Airport in Jefferson.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports county officials want to take steps that would make the county the fixed base operator of the airport. This means Ashe County would be responsible for providing or contracting for airport services like fuel and oil.
The former manager for the Ashe County Airport, Marvin Stump, retired last month. He had been providing the services on a contract basis.
Ashe County Manager Dan McMillan told the Journal that if the county served as the fixed base operator of the airport, the airport would be run as a county facility.
