Written by Kenneth Reece

This week marks the annual Perseid meteor shower.

No matter if you are an avid sky watcher or not, this week will offer one of natures most fascinating events. The Perseids meteor shower will peak this year in the morning of Wednesday August 12.  To locate the showers look to the East/Northeast in the hours after midnight.

The Perseids are predicted to reach a peak of 60 to 90 meteors per hour at 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to various online sources, the showers are best observed between 11 p.m. and dawn from a clear, dark location with a good horizon. Look to the northeast to find the meteors.
