The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Ashe and Watauga counties until 9:00 tonight.

Areas specifically mentioned by the NWS as dangerous include Jefferson, West Jefferson, Wagoner, Trout, Shatley Springs, Othello, Nella, Lansing, Idewild, Grassy Creek, Glendale Springs, Flatwood, Clifton, Baldwin, Ashland, and Reese.

The NWS says a flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring, so residents in the warning area should move to higher ground immediately.  Residents who live along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions.

Authorities are also reminding residents not to cross swiftly-flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or automobile.
