Mabel Elementary School’s after school program received a $3,200 grant to help lower income students at Mabel pay the fees for the after school program.
According to Marshall Ashcraft of Watauga County Schools, former North Carolina Secretary of State and Attorney General Rufus Edmisten awarded the grant money to Mabel because he said it “has such a positive impact on the lives of the children who benefit from its mission.”
Mabel’s after school program serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The school itself serves around 200 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
