A free workshop series educating residents on how to start a news business will begin later this month.

Julia Rowland, an assistant director with Appalachian State’s Walker College of Business, is helping organize the event.

Rowland said the Rural Entrepreneurial Outreach Program is hosting the free series.

The Ashe County Campus of Wilkes Community College, the Ashe County Economic Development Commission, the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce, ASU’s Walker College of Business, and ASU’s Center for Entrepreneurship are all program partners for the series.

The event will be held at the Ashe Campus of Wilkes Community College and first day of the series is May 19, with a meeting on June 2 and June 16.

Rowland said anyone wanting to start or grow their own business is welcomed to attend.

Interested residents must register by May 14 to attend.  Residents can register online at or by picking up a brochure at area businesses and community centers.
