Petition to save golf course in Seven Devils PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge
Tuesday, 12 June 2007 10:10

The following is a copy of the petition submitted by the citizens’ group for the proposed eminent domain action by the town regarding the golf course at Seven Devils.

The following does not reflect the opinions of Aisling Broadcasting.

PETITION

The Town of Seven Devils “Vision Statement” begins:

“The Town of Seven Devils is a residential and recreational community whose citizens and governance are committed to managing its growth, with a primary focus on owner-occupied single-family homes and on the preservation and enhancement of the distinctive and irreplaceable natural beauty of its mountain setting.”

A year ago the owners of the golf course property in Seven Devils, for their sole benefit, closed the golf course and put up “NO TRESPASSING” signs

Denying access by the citizens of Seven Devils, reducing the summer recreational acreage by 89% and significantly reducing property values in the Town. The Town has done a good job of preventing major destructive construction on the property but has done little to secure the land from further destruction, or to return it to the public recreational use inherent in the vision statement or to recover the property value loss of Seven Devils Citizens. The matter is now before the Town Council for consideration. Public ownership of the property is an important option that the Town should explore and keep open to be ready if needed to protect those qualities put forth in the “Vision Statement” and to recover and protect the property values of all the Seven Devils citizens. The Town Council should not be coward by the bullying of a few away from their duty to protect the vast majority of Seven Devils citizens from damage and the environmental gem in their charge.

The undersigned request that the Town Council continue to explore the possibility of public ownership of the golf course property in Seven Devils.
