Linda Ronstadt will make her first appearance at MerleFest,
appearing at the Wilkes festival Sunday, April 26, to close out the four-day event,
organizers announced yesterday.
She'll perform traditional mariachi songs
sung in Spanish, and will be joined by the Grammy-winning Mariachi Los
Camperos de Nati Cano.
Ronstadt, an 11-time Grammy winner, has staged the production over
the last 20 years to reflect her love of the traditional folk music she
learned while growing up in her Mexican-American family in Tucson.
The production will features songs from her 1987 Grammy-winning
album Canciones de Mi Padre and from Mas Canciones. The staging will
include violions, trumpets, vihuela and guitarron of mariachi music.
This year's MerleFest lineup features more than 95 performers,
including Emmylou Harris, Sam Bush, Travis Tritt, Great Big Sea, and,
as always, Doc Watson.
