Avery County Money Scam PDF Print

Avery County Sheriff, Kevin Frye told Aisling Broadcasting that several residents have received phone calls soliciting funds for the Avery County Sheriff’s Office.

Frye said the person calling is posing as an Avery County Deputy.

Frye said the caller is not affiliated with the sheriff’s office and is probably part of a money scam of some type.

Frye explained that this has and is happening with Sheriff Offices all across the state.

There are only three authorized solicitations that have anything to do with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office which are their annual calendar advertisement sales, their yearly anti-drug advertisement sales, and the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association annual Honorary Membership drive near the first of every year.

Frye said, “With the economy they way it is, and with the overall morals of our country declining, we are experiencing a tremendous growth in money scams.  I am saddened that one way is to use the names of agencies which we trust, law enforcement, fire, rescue or military, to take advantage of citizen’s trusting nature.”

Frye is asking residents to use caution before sending money to any organization to ensure it is not a scam.
