The NC State Patrol blamed high speed in a wreck that took a Marion man’s life Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 221 North of Marion. The crash occurred near Linville Falls Golf Club, with emergency crews dispatched around 3 p.m. for a single-car wreck. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene in his overturned Mitsubishi Eclipse.  Now that driver has been identified as Jonathan Luke Brown, 21, of Marion, according to Trooper Josh Settlemyre, of the N.C. Highway Patrol, who said Brown was heading south and took a curve at a high rate of speed, ran off the road to the right, struck a bridge piling, which knocked his vehicle across the road and into a tree. He called the speed “unsafe,” saying it was ”well over the posted speed limit,”  Trooper Settlemyre said Brown was dressed for work at Baxter Healthcare just a few miles from the scene, and that Brown was wearing his seatbelt.
