Area law enforcement is on the lookout for a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident from early yesterday morning on US 321 just south of Hickory.  Around 6:40am, a trucker spotted a man lying beside the road about a mile south of Interstate 40, according to the State Patrol, who said they found parts from a gray 1996 to 2000 Honda two door sedan, now with significant damage to the driver’s side and broken glass on the driver’s side.  Late yesterday, the man was identified by North Carolina Highway Patrol as John Morrison, 35, of Mountain View. The Hickory Daily Record reports that Morrison was reportedly last seen alive at 1:40 a.m., after he was dropped off at River Road, Mountain View, and was going to walk to his girlfriend's house. The latest from the investigation is that the Highway Patrol has determined the tire impressions of the Honda Civic are about a week old, and they're unsure of the exact vehicle make and model that struck Morrison. Officials believe the vehicle will have damage to the front hood and possibly the windshield.
