A teen was seriously injured—airlifted after a head-on crash last night just south of Boone.  The crash occurred just before 9pm in the curves on US 321 near the Elk Motel as 18-year old Owen A. Giannini, listing a Weehawkin New Jersey address, went left of center north-bound into Boone, his Kawasaki motorcycle slamming head-long into the front left of the Toyota sedan of Harold Lee Reece Jr., of Hudson, according to the state patrol report.  Boone Fire and Watauga Medics rushed to the scene, and Giannini was rushed to the helipad at Watauga Medical Center where a WINGS Air Rescue chopper set down to fly the teen to the Johnson City Medical Center.  Trooper B. L. Cox said that the crash was still under investigation late last night, with a number of aspects still being looked at as to the cause of the crash.  Traffic through the area was greatly curtailed due to the crash and clean-up.
