Arrests reported by the Avery County Sheriff's Office: On July 7th, officers arrested John L. Griffin Jr, 42, for possession of a weapon by Prisoner and assault with a deadly weapon with intention to kill, inflicting serious bodily injury.  This incident happened at Avery-Mitchell Prison and was an inmate on inmate assault. Griffin was taken to the Avery County Jail where a warrant was served on him for the offenses.  He is under a $20,000.00 secured bond. 
On July 24th, officers arrested Karen Bradshaw Cleghorn, 57, of Beech Mountain.  She was charged with Embezzlement and was booked into the Avery County Jail under a $10,000.00 secured bond. Also on July 24th, officers arrested Robert Alan Cook, 22, who is homeless but stays around the Elk Park area.  
Cook was charged with breaking and entering, Larceny after breaking and entering as well as second degree trespass.  Cook was booked into the Avery County Jail under a $21,500.00 secured bond.

On August 3rd, 2014, officers arrested James Adam Cook, 26, of Elk Park, pursuant to an investigation, after officers received information that he was growing marijuana on his property. Cook was charged with Possession with intention to manufacture/sell, distribute marijuana and held at the Avery County Jail under a $3,000.00 secured bond.
