There were several injuries Sunday morning in traffic and bicycling accidentsall of them along Poplar Grove Road just out of Boone. The first was at about 8:30 at the Poplar Grove / Shulls Mill intersection, a bike crash that caused injuries to the rider. Then at about 10:45am off of Fallview Avenue at the Cottages of Boone, a vehicle hitting the emergency turnaround and flipping, according to Watauga sources. Watauga Medics responded for the transport of a victim from that wreck. Then another cyclist was injured in an 11:30am crash on Poplar Grove Road approaching Shulls Mill Road, a woman cyclist said to be bloodied by her crashWatauga Medics responding along with Foscoe First Responders to deal with her injuries.
Saturday was a bad day for motorcyclists riding in the High Country, with three accidentstwo involving striking animals. Just before 11pm, a cyclist struck a deer on Mast Gap Road in Sugar Grove and was injuredbut not seriously. Just before 5 Saturday afternoon, a motorcyclist struck a dog while riding on US 421 near the Tennessee line. He suffered mostly road rash. And mid-morning Saturday crash involved a cyclist turning into an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway misjudged his turn and the cycle fell over on him. Avery medical teams said injuries were not life-threatening.
